A primary responsibility of the Dog Bathing Specialist at Petco is to maintain consistency in the brand and programs offered. They ensure that all operational standards are followed at the Pet Care Center.
As a dog trainer, it is your responsibility to adopt the Petco Positive Dog Training curriculum, implementing specific methodologies and policies geared towards maximizing the safety of the dog during training. Following the LIMA oversight ensures that you train the dog humanely and that you are in control throughout the process. You must make sure that pet parents have a positive experience, encouraging them to work in collaboration with their furry friends while creating an enjoyable and safe environment.

- Implement safety measures to guarantee a secure training environment for dogs, their owners, visitors, and Petco staff.
- Upholding ethical principles plays a crucial role in how one interacts with dogs, pet parents, and the Pet Care Center's business partners.
- Confidently fulfill the requirements set forth in the Dog Training Instructor Program (DTIP).
- Positive reinforcement techniques involve rewarding good behavior and avoiding negative reinforcement methods. These techniques are highly effective in helping dogs learn faster and retain behavior for a longer time.
- Build on community relations through cross-functional collaboration with Pet Care Center partners to expand the reach of the dog training business.
- Employ superior listening techniques to motivate dog owners toward successful dog training outcomes with influencing factors rather than direct authority.
- A successful presentation requires a clear message and a well-planned delivery method.
- Keep yourself up-to-date on the latest products and services, and engage with customers to discuss their unique features and benefits.
- Adhere to the timeframes set by Petco for completing the Positive Canine Training Instructor Program and related onboarding.
- You will be in charge of organizing dog training schedules and ensuring that all the necessary procedures and standards are met.
- The upkeep of the Dog Training area and equipment is paramount to operational procedures, and it is vital to adhere to the guidelines and policies to achieve this goal.
Other Essential Duties:
- Present top-notch and respectful service to all Petco visitors by determining their needs and suggesting dog training products based on thorough familiarity.
- Support and advance the adherence to safety and loss prevention policies.
Basic Qualifications:
- A preferred educational requirement is a high school diploma or its equivalent, a GED.
- Meeting the established timelines is vital to succeed in Petco's Positive Dog Training Instructor Program, which is mandatory for new hires.
- Brings a wealth of experience in presenting to individuals and large audiences alike, ensuring messaging is clear and concise.
- Proficient with technological devices and able to identify and solve technical concerns.
- Aptitude in working with computers and conducting online searches.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferably, candidates should have a CPDT-KA or KPA-CTP certification, especially from the Karen Pryor Academy.
- Applicants who have previously taught positive reinforcement techniques for dog training in a group or class structure would be given preference.
